June Update from Kerrisdale Lawn Bowling

We are about five weeks into the bowling season and things are off to an excellent start. The club has 96 members, of which 24 are new! The green is in excellent shape and playing well despite the bare patches where moss was removed. Those areas should begin to fill in soon.

Open Draws

Open draws, where teams are chosen at random, take place every day at 1:30 pm and Monday to Friday at 7:00 pm. This is a great time for new members to get to know the game as well as their new bowling friends, pick up some tips and practice with more experienced bowlers. Stay afterwards for refreshments and a chat. Check the daily calendar for the full schedule.

Name Tags

We will be sending in an order for name tags in a couple of weeks, which will cost about $16. If you would like a name tag, please use the sign-up sheet in the clubhouse. Specify whether you want both names, just your first name or first name and initial and also specify pin or magnet. See feature image here.

Canada Day Bowls & BBQ

On Wednesday July 1, bowling will get underway at about 2:00 pm followed by a BBQ. Cost is $15 for members and $20 for guests. There is a sign-up sheet in the clubhouse. Specify the number of people so we know how much food to bring in.

Rentals

Green rentals are critical to the club’s financial health, bringing in over $12,000 a year. There are no rentals June but there are several in July and August. Club volunteers are needed to ensure a successful outing for the rental groups. Volunteers set up the green, show people how to bowl, how to keep score etc., and generally assist. Please consider coming out to help.

Thanks for a great season!

The Kerrisdale LBC will be closing for the season on Monday October 7th 2025.

Thank you for playing, participating and helping with the rentals and social activities!

During the Fall and Winter months, please join us for our weekly walk on Tuesday mornings. Details are posted on our website calendar.

Our Annual General Meeting, will be held on Saturday, 1st November, 2025 at 2pm in the clubhouse. This is open to all members.

Our annual Christmas dinner will be held on Saturday, 13th, December, 2025 in the clubhouse. Check back for information on how to register.

We look forward to seeing you back again at the beginning on the 2026 season, on Saturday, April 25th 2026.

Results from the 2025 Norine Armstrong Women’s Triples!

The 2025 Norine Armstrong Women’s Triples Tournament was played on July 23rd.

This year’s trophy winners were:

  • Belle Chan, Pat Kost and Shelley Tysoe of Kerrisdale LBC
  • 2nd place winners were Marsella Leung, Maxine Shiu, and Yee Wong of South Burnaby LBC
  • In 3rd place were Barbara Hsieh, Carrie Lai, and Betty Chan of New Westminster LBC

BC Day Fun Games and BBQ

Norine Armstrong Event – July 23, 2025

> Please note there is a wait list for the Norine Armstrong Event on July 23rd. 

Kerrisdale LBC is looking forward to hosting and seeing you again, at this one-day event!

We have room for 16 teams. Entry fee per triples team is $60.  Cheques may be mailed to the above address or via Interac to: Pac6625@gmail.com add your club name and event.

Street parking is free and available, without time limits, on Elm Street and West 43rd Ave in Kerrisdale.

Please arrive by 8:45am and be ready to have 2 trial ends with 2 bowls, before start of play at 9:00am. Team colours or whites will be worn.

We shall be playing a modified round-robin event, 4 games of 10 ends each. If it is a hot day, we may reduce to 8-end games. A random draw will be completed ahead of time.

Please bring a bag lunch. Tea, coffee and snacks will be provided.

Scoring: Win scores 3 points, Draw scores 1 point.

The team with the most game points will be declared the winner and if there is a tie in game points, then the shot differential between the 2 teams will be the deciding factor. Shot differentials will be capped at +/- 10.

Games will be played under modified Bowls Canada Rules. If the jack is burned, it is placed at the centre point of the mat line at the 2 metre mark.

Work Party

There is a work party at the clubhouse this coming Saturday March 22.

Starting at 1.30 and continuing until pizza arrives at about 5.30.

Summary and results from the 2024 Norinne Armstrong Women’s Triples:

16 teams entered the event.  The draw was random and the teams played 4 rounds of 10 ends with a 90 minute time limit. Each winner received 3 points and 1 point for a tie and the differential was set at  + /- 10 points.

The teams gathered for 9am with a photograph and introduction at 9:15a.m.  2 trial ends of 2 balls were played and the play stared at 9:30am.  It was suggested that in 2025 play should begin at 9am.

The registration fee was $60 per team netting the club $960.  The 50/50 draw raised $170 of which $85 was given to the winner Suphin Nakutnok.

The trophy winner and the $180 prize went to: Jenny Siu, Rainbow Lung and Anita Lee of Richmond 1 team, last year’s runners up!

2nd place prize of $120 was awarded to: Mann Park’s  Gayle Waddell, Dianne Brynjolfson and Bernice Urbanik.

3rd place prize of $75 was awarded to New Westminster’s Barbara Hsieh, Carrie Lai and Betty Chan.

The prizes were awarded at 5pm.

Special thanks to: David Goddard, Tom Berridge, Peter Lee and Robert for helping with the set up and take down of the green.

Debra Golabek, Nancy Chalmers and Maureen Roulstone for help with creating and maintaining the snacks and drinks.

Ross Gentleman for score keeping and many others who helped out along the way.

The weather was cool and cloudy in the morning but the sun came out after lunch and was perfect for playing bowls.
